Prithviraj Singh Oberoi, the Honorary Chairman of the Oberoi Group, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 94. He was known for his role in giving a new direction to the hotel business in India and for changing the face of this industry.

Oberoi was born in 1929 in Shimla, India. He studied at the Oberoi School of Hotel Management in Delhi and began his career in the hotel industry in 1950. He joined the Oberoi Group in 1965 and became its Executive Chairman in 1989.

Under Oberoi’s leadership, the Oberoi Group expanded from a single hotel in Delhi to a global chain of luxury hotels. He is credited with opening several luxury hotels in important cities worldwide.

Oberoi was a pioneer in the hospitality industry and was known for his commitment to providing exceptional service to his guests. He was also a strong advocate for the development of tourism in India.

In addition to his leadership in the hotel industry, Oberoi was also a philanthropist. He was a trustee of several charities and was known for his support of education and healthcare initiatives.

Oberoi was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award. He was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) in 2012.

Oberoi is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
