Table of Contents
1. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) – The Original Nightmare
To start our list, I will go old school with “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” This 1974 classic is not only a movie; it’s an experience. The raw filming style, almost like a documentary, adds the absolute feeling of being a witness to the 1974 grabs and Leatherface’s disgusting family. It’s gritty, it’s gory, and it redefined horror. It’s a classic.
2. Martyrs (2008) – A Brutal Mind Bender
One horror movie is called Martyrs, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. This French 2008 film is an intense horror ride that will leave you breathless. This movie will leave you thinking long after the credits roll; it will have you wondering if it is for real. Is this what happens when we die? This movie will churn your stomach and challenge your mind.
3. Ringu (1998) – The Haunting VHS
“Ringu” (1998), the Japanese horror flick that started it all, features Sadako and her horrifying curse on a videotape. There’s no blood, guts, or gore, the constant build-up of dread that remains with you forever. Anybody who has seen or heard of this movie will know what this scene is about: it may very well be the scariest death scene ever, though it is more psychological horror.
4. Audition (1999) – A Twisted Love Story
Amongst other things, Audition is a film that will leave your skin crawling. On the surface, the film has a very simplistic plot: a widower trying to find a new wife. Ms. Saeki’s growing pain and nausea made him very uneasy. The thought of another man doing these things to his wife feels like unimaginable pain. Ms. Saeki is consumed with both pain and passo’s,
which is why she has blue and red strips in her hair. The blue hair is the passion, and the red is the searing flesh when pierced by a pin. The 1999 film creeps to a climax, spiraling one dreadful event into another.
5. The Babadook (2014) – More Than a Boogeyman
In 2014, the Australian film “The Babadook” emerged as a fresh contender in the ranks of challenging horror, delving into themes of grief and mental illness as a storybook beastie called the Babadook terrorizes a mom and her son. It’s chilling, it’s heartfelt, and it’s thoughtful.
6. Silent Hill (2006) – A Video Game Nightmare Come to Life
Based on the game Silent Hill is about a foggy virtual world covered in ash, including horrible creatures. This movie, created in 2006, has a very creative look and stuck to the game, almost making it great for even those new to it.
7. The Exorcist (1973) – The Demon Within
1973’s seminal classic The Exorcist. Few in the horror-loving community haven’t seen this stunning film about the ultimate battle between good and evil – demonic possession – and with excellent reason: it’s one of the most influential and unsettling films in cinema history. The practical effects are some of the best, as are the performances. The sheer intensity of this film also blows everything else out of the water.
8. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) – A Slasher Showdown
In 2003, moviegoers were treated to the on-screen collision of two of the most iconic villains among the annals of horror via “Freddy vs. “Jason,” a magical horror party that is both fun and bloody. It’s a fan-service dream that delivers on its shared billing.
9. The Medium (2021) – A Terrifying Tale of Possession
Another more recent gem is The Medium from 2021. The Medium is a Thai horror movie examining the darker side of spiritual possession in a farm village with a traditional doctor. Shot from more of a documentary point of view, it is more effective and offers a good supernatural movie to give a try if you haven’t.
10. Hereditary (2018) – A Family’s Cursed Legacy
The film “Hereditary” takes the typical family drama and turns it into something more terrifying. The 2018 I implied one of the most outstanding examples of building and building until the final 15 minutes, when I wasn’t able to have a conversation (literary!). A modern masterpiece from the blending of psychological horror with the supernatural.
11. Saw (2004) – The Game of Survival
“Saw,” is not another gory movie, well, not all of it. This 2004 trilogy starts with ‘Saw’; when it was made, it did more than entertain you. It inspired the ‘torture-porn’ sub-genre of horror films. Now, while all three have made billions, spawned a sequel or two, and made the original trilogy the biggest and best of its genre,
12. Sinister (2012) – Discovering the Horrors Within
“Sinister” is a 2012 film that combines found footage with traditional storytelling. The story of a true crime writer uncovering the truth behind a series of murders is as compelling as frightening. The atmosphere
in this movie is immersive.
13. The Shining (1980) – A Haunted Hotel and a Fractured Mind
When I saw Saw after I saw Saw 2. Saw was released in 2004, and when it was released, it inspired the sub-genre of ‘torture-porn’ horror films. Now, it’s not the first of the three horror films to be released onto the big screen, but Saw is the start of when Jigsaw falls in love with his creations(mainly traps) and wants to play a little game with them. The Jigsaw is called Jigsaw because of its traps, and what do you find in a Jigsaw piece? Saw is a powerful movie
, even though for almost the entire film, the two men are in a small, square, and disturbing room that seems to have nothing but light, and there aren’t many killings(unless that’s what you want),
it’s the end of the movie that real surprise you. Saw is an absolute classic whodunnit film, but in this film, we don’t know who did it except for the fact that we think it is the man in the white mask. I saw no need to watch once or twice, maybe three times, if you’re really into ‘Whodunit’ films like me. Now on to Saw 2. This had to be seen since the ending was exciting in the first Saw. This time, a cop goes into a warehouse that Jigsaw uses to hold people wh, and he wants to see what they have done. In this Saw, if you see the film through to its third act,
remember just one name: Daniel. Now, Saw is a good movie, but probably not the movie you want to see if you only have a day to see Saw. Saw Two is also a good movie, as it differs from the first. This time, it is not two men in a room. There are many people this time, and I won’t say how they all relate. Saw Three is the third of the trilogy. When I first heard about Saw 3 in 2006. I decided not to have
