Embattled Republican Congressman George Santos is dealing with renewed calls for expulsion from office following a scathing report via the House Ethics Committee that determined proof of misconduct.
The record, released on November 16th, observed that Santos had fabricated massive elements of his life story in his election marketing campaign and had misused campaign funds. It also referred the matter to the Justice Department for possible criminal prosecution.
In response to the file, Democratic lawmakers Robert Garcia and Dan Goldman filed a privileged decision on Tuesday, November 28th, to force a vote on Santos’s expulsion. The resolution calls for a two-thirds majority inside the House, which Republicans manage by a narrow 221-213 margin.
Santos has denied any wrongdoing and has stated he will no longer resign. However, many Republicans who voted in opposition to his expulsion in November have indicated that they would no longer achieve this again.
